Jacksboro Police Department Chief Bryan Corb traveled Friday, June 7 to Austin to receive the certi_cate. Corb said the process to become a training hub began in February. “We saw a need … in the area and decided to take advantage of the lack of training in the area,” Corb said. “We are the only (certi _ed) one in Jack County and we have very few in the surrounding areas.” According to TCOLE, the closest contract training provider in the region is 26 miles away at Young County Sheriff’s Of_ce, with the next closest providers being 43 miles away in Weatherford or 47 miles away in Azle. “While these entities are located throughout Texas, one of the challenges faced is providing requested and needed training services to all licensees in an effective and efficient manner,” TCOLE’s website states. Several law enforcement agencies come to training sites to receive training. “These (contract training) providers offer training for peace officers, jailers, and telecommunicators to maintain their licenses or acquire certificates,” TCOLE’s website states. “They also have the ability to offer additional courses that meet the needs of the area served.” Corb reached out to different agencies and received support from Olney Police Department, Jack County Sheriff’s Office and others. A board of directors, which included Training Coordinators Adam Rydlinski and Aaron Austin, was formed and developed bylaws, policies and procedures. “We looked at the classes we wanted to host and sent all that information into TCOLE,” Corb said. “We had an inspector look over our training area and gun range.” The department has six certified instructors including Corb, Aaron Austin, Daniel Moody, Cody Strone, Rydlinski and Houston Gass. The department uses the Jacksboro Fire Department’s training room for classes, which it has done nearly a dozen times since October alone, Corb said. The department hosted classes in the last several months on active shooter training, leadership and others.
