Photo/Brian Smith Jacksboro’s summer basketball team answered the age-old question of whether a strong start or finish is best last week. The answer: both. The Tigers, facing Millsap in a Poolville Summer League game Thursday, June 20, got out to a 14-0 start over the game’s first 12 minutes. The Bulldogs matched Jacksboro point for point for most of the game and drew within 10 with just under five minutes to go. It would prove to be as close as the Bulldogs would get as Jacksboro ended the game on a 13-1 run to post a 48-24 win. Jacksboro is now 2-1 in league play. Grady Brown had a strong start, getting the Tigers on the board withapairoffreethrows and hitting the boards hard for rebounds on both ends of the glass. Eli Jonas and Jarrid English added buckets to extend the lead to 6-0 barely three minutes into the 20-minute running clock half. Brayden Rockey moved the lead into double figures by converting a pair of threepoint plays. Brown also buried a three-pointer to extend the lead to 14-0. Millsap got on the board with 8:03 left in the first half and outscored the Tigers, 9-8 the rest of the half. Eli Jonas had a pair of baskets late for Jacksboro, which led 22-9 at the half. Single free throws from English and Jonas gave the Purple a 15-point lead early in the second half. The solid free throw shooting continued with Damian Salazar and Will Treadway hitting free throws to give the Purple their biggest lead to date at 31-14. Millsap began converting three-pointers to whittle into the deficit which got down to 33-23 with 4:40 to go. Salazar had nine of his 10 points in the game’s final three minutes to help the Purple pull away. Rockey’s three-pointer and a Treadway basket late sealed the deal. Jacksboro had three in double figures with Rockey leading the way with 11 points. Salazar and English added 10 points each. Jacksboro closes play at 5:40 p.m. Thursday, June 27 against Mineral Wells.
