Palacios has been booked into the Jackson County Jail for murder.
Four former Industrial Students receive probation
By Jessica ColemanContributing Writer Christopher Taylor McCrory, Cullen Reid Stumfoll, Zachery James Kuchler, and Braxton Cole Warren stood alongside their attorney Brent Dornbug and accepted four identical plea agreements today. Judge Kemper Stephen Williams presided over the hearing. The four men were accused in April of 2023 of assaulting a baseball teammate on an Industrial ISD bus, and subsequently charged with Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity, a State Jail Felony. The case soon became controversial, with some claiming the incident was a violent assault, and others dismissing it as simply horseplay. McCrory, Stumfoll, Kuchler and Warren all plead guilty to a lesser included offense, Assault Causing Bodily Injury, a Class A misdemeanor. All were sentenced to 12 months deferred adjudication, a type of probation which, if completed successfully, would leave them without a conviction on their records. All were ordered to complete 50 hours of community service, pay a $1,000 fine, refrain from any contact with the victim or the family thereof, and abide by any and all conditions of misdemeanor probation.
Baseball players' trial set for August
By Jessica Coleman Contributing Writer According to a statement in court by their attorney Brent Dornburg, four former Industrial ISD baseball players are scheduled to stand before a jury in August. Zachary James Kuchler, Christopher Taylor McCrory, Braxton Cole Warren, and Cullen Reid Stumfoll, all 2023 graduates of Industrial ISD, were indicted last year by a Jackson County Grand Jury for Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity. They have been set for an August 26 trial date after multiple resets in the Jackson County District Court. The four were accused by a fellow student and teammate of assault, which the alleged victim said happened on an Industrial ISD school bus in April of 2023. The incident and subsequent arrests sparked arguments in the community, with some calling it hazing and assault, and others dismissing it as horseplay. McCrory, Stumfoll and Kuchler were arrested on July 20, 2023. Warren was arrested just a few days later on July 24. Each posted a $10,000 bond and were released.

Jackson County teams see paths opening for baseball playoffs
, , By Michael Brooks Editor/General Manager With a huge 3-2 victory over the Columbus Cardinals, the Edna Cowboys baseball team may have saved their season as they opened a path to the playoffs. Columbus was undefeated in district play and ranked 11th in state, but none of that mattered as Edna brought the pitching, timely hitting and great baserunning to grab the victory. A loss would have left the Cowboys relying on a lot of things to break right for them to even have a chance to tie for a playoff spot. But now, barring another huge...

Butterfly Ball Planned for March 23
By Beth Foley Staff Writer A group of Jackson County residents is taking steps to help local cancer patients with expenses related to treatment and not normally covered by insurance.
