Online threats toward southern IL schools determined 'not credible'
Authorities investigated threats posted online toward several southern Illinois schools on Sunday which turned out to be not credible. The Jackson County Sheriff's Office in Murphysboro said that they received word that a threat was posted on social media to a Jackson County school, and to a local school in the Carbondale city limits.
Threats Made to Three Area Schools Found to Be Not Credible
MURPHYSBORO – The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office reports that threats made to three schools in our area turned out to be false. The sheriff’s office responded at 7 a.m. Sunday to a call of a threat to a Jackson County school. The threat was made via Facebook posts to the school’s Facebook page. The sheriff’s office did not name the school in their press release.
Police investigating after schools threatened by fake social media account
VIENNA, Ill. (KBSI) — Carbondale police are investigating after a threat was made via social media to a least three school Facebook accounts. Vienna School District leaders were made aware of the threatening social media post around 9 a.m. Sunday. The school district notified school resource officers, the Vienna Police Department and the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department. That led to the involvement of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, Carbondale Police Department and school resource officers from Jackson County. These agencies also involved the Marion FBI field office, DCFS and the respective state’s attorneys from each county.

JACKSON COUNTY, Ill. (KFVS) - The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a social media account after threats were made to local school districts. According to the sheriff’s office, investigators received a call at around 7 a.m. on June 23 about a threat made to a Jackson County School on the school’s Facebook page. They learned the same Facebook profile made similar threats to at least two other schools--one in Carbondale as well as Vienna.
