Dogs wag their stuff: Jackson County Fair 4-H Dog Show
BROWNSTOWN — One of the first events of the annual Jackson County Fair — the 4-H Dog Show — was held this past Saturday with 14 dogs vying for numerous awards. The 14 dogs with 11 4-H’ers in tow had the opportunity to compete in as many as three sections during the show — agility, obedience and showmanship.
Salem man dies after falling into quarry near Sparksville
A 20-year-old Washington County man died Wednesday evening after falling into an abandoned quarry near Sparksville in far southwestern Jackson County, police report. Jayden Clark of Salem was pronounced dead by an official with the Jackson County Coroner’s Office after he fell somewhere between 50 and 75 feet into the quarry located in the 10000 block of West County Road 765S, Jackson County Sheriff Rick Meyer said in a news release.

Kim Carter Kaufman
Kim Carter Kaufman, 66, passed away Wednesday, July 3, 2024, in Jackson County. He was born April 6, 1958, in Seymour, Indiana to the late Edna (Kloecker) Kaufman. Kim was well known for his many years of service as Manager of Big O Tires in Seymour. He had a love of cars and could always be found working on a vehicle. A skilled mechanic, he retired early at age 62 and had plenty of time for tinkering. Kim loved to go fast and had a passion for riding his 2002 Harley Davidson Fat Boy motorcycle.
