JACKSON, Mich. (WLNS)– The Jackson Fire Department confirmed with 6 News that improperly discarded fireworks started a house fire in Blackman Township last night.
The fire department says it happened around 12:42 a.m. when fire crews and the Department of Public Safety responded to a call regarding a fire on Jacobson Drive.

Two adults and four kids were inside the house but no one was injured. The local community is offering their support to the family, calling the incident a “tragedy.” A neighbor even stopped by to offer money to the family. Officials say the house is a total loss.
Fire officials say that if you need to discard a firework, take the proper measures.
“Any time that the citizens are lighting those fireworks off we want it to be safe so we ask them to submerge them in water after lighting them off or hose them off,” said Assistant Chief of the Jackson Fire Department Joe Smith. “Try to ignite them on a nice concrete or black top, away from any structures, never have any children light them off, try not to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and understand that accidents do happen but we try and prevent them in any way that we can.”
