LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — In Jackson, flooding along the Grand River is causing concern on Wednesday, especially in light of the flood advisory.

With rain continuing over Tuesday night and throughout Wednesday, the Grand River ended up overflowing.

Parking lots and streets near the river were submerged and one woman who has lived in Jackson for decades says the water level is nearly 8 feet higher than usual.

Several businesses and homes may soon be affected.

Jackson residents gathered by the swollen river, in awe of how high the water is.

“I’ve never seen it this high in my 58 years of life,” said Kevin Kingsley, a long-time resident of the area. “The flow’s good, so I’m not too terribly concerned, but this is as high as I’ve ever seen it. Engineers might want to take a look at it in the future and investigate what’s downstream and why it’s backed up.”

Officials are urging caution and advising everyone to avoid flooded areas.

The river flood advisory remains in effect.
