LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — The Jackson Community Foundation (JFC), announced that the City of Jackson received $663,600 in grant funds for the Jackson King Recreational Center.

According to Michigan.gov , Spark Grants is a public-private partnership created to expand access to recreation spaces and programs for communities that have historically experienced barriers to accessing these types of grants.

According to a news release sent by the Jackson Community Foundation, the grant funds will be used for the playground behind the Jackson Recreational Center. The goal is to move the playground closer to the MLK Jr. Trail for all ages and all abilities to access.

“Centering local voices, particularly those who are closest to the issues, and ensuring they are
among the decision-makers for designing solutions for our collective community is core to who we are as a community foundation,” said Monica Moser, JCF President & CEO.

“We are proud to have joined the City of Jackson in listening to and learning from our community as we all dreamed about what recreational assets might be possible, and we celebrate with them on this transformational investment.”
