LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — From Tuesday to Wednesday, heavy rains caused damage to buildings and infrastructure in mid-Michigan.

In Jackson , “the City’s water infrastructure was put under extreme pressure,” and “wastewater and stormwater systems [were] at maximum capacity,” officials said in a Facebook post on Thursday.

The very same post states that this pressure caused “sanitary sewer overflows at the intersection of Adrian and Merriman Streets and the Wastewater Treatment Plant,” a road hazard and potential public health concern.

Officials also explained that  “the water infrastructure system is recovering and stabilized,” and the city government is continuing to respond to damages. Jackson’s Department of Public Works is cleaning up the water on the roads along with other debris from the storm like destroyed natural features and property.

“Customers should not see any continued disruption to water services,” the Facebook post explained. In the post, the city included resources and information for locals if a tree or other hazardous debris from the storm has fallen in their yards. It said:

“To report a tree that needs attention, please call Public Works at 517-788-4170. The City cannot intervene if the tree is on the private property of Consumers Energy needs to address a downed power line first,” the city government declared.
