Washtenaw ISD Awarded $5.6 million Grant to Provide Early Childhood Educational Opportunities
With help from a federal grant, the Washtenaw Intermediate School District (WISD) will continue to offer educational opportunities to preschool-age kids. The WISD announced on July 22, the “Office of Head Start (OHS), a part of the federal Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Children and Families, awarded a $5.6 million grant to the Washtenaw Intermediate School District (WISD) to continue providing Head Start preschool for 3- and 4-year-old students and Early Head Start home-based home visiting for families with children ages birth to 3.”
Man pleads guilty to 2nd-degree murder after appellate court declines to hear case
WASHTENAW COUNTY, MI – A man who previously contested evidence he fatally shot an Ypsilanti man has now pleaded guilty. Roughly three months after the Michigan Court of Appeals declined to consider whether Roger Lee Pierce’s statements to police were inadmissible in court, the 54-year-old pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and using a firearm during a felony, court records show.

The 2024 Moneyball Pro-Am continues this week on Tuesday and Thursday at Holt High school. The six-team summer league, which is in its 19th season, is made up of college players, former college players and professionals — including Michigan State’s men’s basketball roster, with the Spartans’ players divided up among the six teams. Central Michigan’s roster is also dispersed throughout the league.
Free Ice Cream and Great Music in Dexter
The Dexter Lions Club and Dexter Creamery have been teaming up this summer to bring free ice cream to the Music in the Park events. Over the past couple of months, the Dexter Lions has served free ice cream from the Creamery on Friday nights during the Summer Concert Series. They will be doing it one more time on Aug. 30.
