BROOKHAVEN — Heat stress conditions are forecast to continue into Wednesday. The National Weather Service in Jackson warns of dangerous heat Tuesday while Lincoln County remains under a heat advisory until 8 p.m.

Tuesday will have a 30 percent chance of rain, a high of 96 degrees and heat index reaching a maximum of 106. The record high for June 25 was 101 set in 1969. Be sure to stay hydrated, stay cool and check on neighbors.

Wednesday temperatures will fall to 94 degrees with a 60 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms and a heat index of 101. Thursday has the same chance of rain with the high forecast to reach 90.

Friday through Monday has 30 to 40 percent chances of rain.

According to the National Weather Service, Lincoln County is in a five day consecutive streak of temperatures reaching 90 degrees or greater. The record for consecutive days of 90 degree temps was 69 set in 1951 when the streak was snapped on September 9.

Long term forecasts at the NWS Climate Prediction Center warn of hot weather and dry spells which could result in favorable conditions for rapid drought development for parts of the Southeastern United States. Fortunately, Mississippi is not at risk at this time.

At the same time, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration shows a tropical disturbance off of the northeast coast of South America. Forecasts show the storm should move northwest towards the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. No other tropical disturbances are forecast for the next seven days.
