JACKSON, Miss. ( WJTV ) – The wife of Dau Mabil, his family and their attorneys cannot agree on a a suitable doctor to perform an independent autopsy.

The parties agreed in Hinds County court to conduct a second autopsy.

According to the first autopsy report from the Mississippi State Medical Examiner’s Office, Dau’s cause of death was ruled as a drowning, but his manner of death was undetermined.

Emergency motion judgment filed against Dau Mabil’s wife

The report stated no external signs of trauma or injury were identified that could account for Mabil’s death. A postmortem toxicological analysis of his liver tissue and decomposition fluid detected the presence of ethanol.

In a statement sent to WJTV 12 News, Dau’s brother-in-law, Spencer Bowley, said Attorney Lisa Ross backtracked on previous approvals of pathologists for the procedure. He said the parties will continue to work out an agreement.

Ross told WJTV 12 News that Bul Mabil, Dau’s brother, did not want to use Dr. Amy Gruszecki for the independent autopsy and that they have not reached an agreement with the Bowley family.

Dau was found deceased in the Pearl River in Lawrence County in April 2024 after he disappeared in Jackson in March 2024.
