JACKSON, Miss. ( WJTV ) – People across the Jackson-metro area celebrated Independence Day on Thursday.

Many people took to the water at the Reservoir to relax before meeting up with family and friends later. It’s also a Free Fishing Day in Mississippi, and many fishermen were able to enjoy the Rez on Thursday.

Another event that happened on the Fourth of July was the 2024 Farm Bureau Watermelon Classic. The event was held at the Mississippi Sports of Hall of Fame and Museum in Jackson, and it’s become an annual tradition for some.
