Late June, a Hinds County grand jury indicted Daniel Callihan and his alleged accomplice, Victoria Cox, in connection to a case involving the death a Louisiana woman and abduction of her two daughters across state lines into Mississippi. Only one daughter survived the abduction.

The grand jury indicted Callihan, 36, on one count of capital murder, two counts of kidnapping, three counts of sexual battery and one count of receiving stolen property, according to June 28 court records. Callihan allegedly murdered 4-year-old Erin Brunett and 6-year-old Jalie Brunett's mother, Callie Brunett who was 35 years old.

The jury indicted Cox, 31, on one count of capital murder, one count of kidnapping and one count of sexual battery, according to June 28 court records. Cox allegedly helped Callihan kidnap the two sisters and bring them to Jackson.

The indictments provided graphic details of the abduction and murders, including the sexual battery of the Louisiana woman's 6-year-old daughter.

On June 13, authorities issued an Amber Alert for Erin and Jalie after their Callie's body was found in her Loranger, Louisiana, home. Tangipahoa Parish Chief Deputy Jimmy Travis identified Callihan as the suspect in the case. Court records listed the children's ages.

Media outlets in Louisiana reported the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner’s Office said Callie died from "multiple sharp force injuries," including stab wounds to her head, neck, chest, abdomen and back, as well as defensive wounds to her arms. Her body was discovered by family members.

After Callie's murder, Callihan along with Cox allegedly kidnapped the young girls and brought them to Jackson. Both Erin and Jalie were found in the woods near the 3900 block of Boozier Drive in South Jackson — more than 120 miles away from Loranger.

Erin was found deceased, and Jalie was found alive but with injuries. Jalie received treatment at a hospital and later released.

According to law enforcement officials, authorities are not ruling out if this incident is a part of a broader network of human trafficking due to police finding evidence of small animal cages at the location on Boozier Drive.

"I still have imprinted in my head the sight of that 4-year-old in the woods, dead," Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade said.

Callihan and Cox were arrested in Jackson. Cox remains in jail in Hinds County. Callihan was extradited to Louisiana.
