JACKSON, Miss. ( WJTV ) – The Jackson Public Schools (JPS) Board of Trustees approved an increase in the local supplement added to the State of Mississippi’s minimum pay for school teachers, as well as a pay raise for hourly-paid staff.
For the 2024-2025 school year, JPS officials said teachers and other certified staff on the teacher salary schedule will see an increase in their local supplement. The impact will vary based on individual experience and certification levels.
JPS offers extended registration for 2024-25 school year The new supplement minimums are as follows:
- Teachers with 0-20 years of service: $5,000
- Teachers with 21-30 years of service: $5,250
- Teachers with over 31 years of service: $5,500
According to JPS officials, the local supplement is added to the state-mandated minimum salary, with each district establishing and maintaining its own rates. They said the increase was made possible by the $18 million in additional revenues from the state legislature’s new funding formula, as well as savings from the District’s Optimization for Equity Plan.
“I’m very excited to provide such significant salary increases for JPS team members,” said Superintendent Dr. Errick Greene. “As we continue to strive for excellence in education, and to hold ourselves to even higher standards of service and outcomes for scholars, it is imperative that we pay our people competitive wages. We must treat them with respect, and one of the clearest demonstrations of that respect is in the way that we compensate them.”
Additionally, the JPS Board approved increased hourly wages for classified staff, with a minimum raise of $2.00 per hour and skilled laborers or licensed positions receiving up to $7.00 per hour more.
