JACKSON, Miss. ( WJTV ) – Some major concerns in a Jackson subdivision were addressed during Tuesday’s City Council meeting.

The Brookwood Subdivision is a place where many call home, but some residents said road safety has always been a major concern.

“The residents who live in that part of Brookwood won’t be able to get out. And to us, that’s very important that a lot of times when it floods come through that creek, you can’t leave the neighborhood,” said Lee Bernard, who is a Brookwood Subdivision board member.

Residents who live at the back of the subdivision, along Brookwood Place, have to navigate nearly eroded bridges due to flowing creek waters.

Councilman Aaron Banks, Ward 6, said those bridges were under county maintenance before the area was annexed in 2009.

“But residents, community members are still getting billed by B&G Utility. So for years, we have talked about the legal issues with them not doing their part as far as that. But at the end of the day, they are citizens of Jackson,” said Banks.

According to Brookwood management, a meeting has been set with Jackson’s Public Works Department to resolve the issues.
