JACKSON, Miss. ( WJTV ) – Jackson City Councilman Kenneth Stokes, Ward 3, continues to press the case for a crackdown on a West Jackson gas station.

On Saturday, July 20, a 23-year-old man was shot and killed outside the Texaco on Medgar Evers Boulevard.

Stokes and some supporters came out on Sunday, July 28 to voice their concerns. He said establishments like Texaco should be held accountable for several shootings on the property and the negligence of its customers.

“The first thing about the order business is customer service. If you are providing a business that you see is detrimental to the community, that you’re serving and that your business is causing people to lose their lives, then you should have the integrity of a human being for yourself to say, We need to shut this down,” said Joseph Holiday, an activist.

Stokes said he plans to address the matter at the next City Council meeting.
