Jacksonville, AL – On June 19, 2024, at approximately 12:38 am, the Jacksonville Fire Department, B Shift, was dispatched to the 300 block of Quill Ave due to a possible structure fire. Upon arrival, flames were visible to the firefighters, and they began an attack on the fire. The fire fighters quickly entered the unit on fire in the single-story apartment building and found that multiple rooms were fully engulfed in flames. With the average temperature of a residential fire being 1000 to 1100 degrees, they determine that an interior attack was the best way to bring this fire under control.

Fire Chief, Keith Kadle, stated “There were multiple [hose] lines run with multiple firefighters entering at a time to initiate a strong attack”. The Chief also said that upon initial arrival, a request for mutual aid from Anniston Fire Department, and Weaver Fire Department were made. The Jacksonville Fire Department was able to quickly get the fire under control prior to the other agencies arrival and save other units from flames. Chief Kadle said, “There was still a lot of smoke and water damage to other units, but we were able to keep the flame contained to the one unit.

When the fire was declared to be out, both Anniston FD and Weaver FD remained to assist Jacksonville with the post fire overhaul to make sure that all hotspots were out and that the chances of a fire restarting was brought to a minimum.

Chief Kadle stated, “This fire appears to have been a cooking fire that got out of control”, when asked if there were any people inside, he stated that everyone was out prior to their arrival.

Chief Kadle said, “I would like to thank the Anniston Fire Department and the Weaver Fire Department for assisting Jacksonville. I am also very proud of our firefighters for quickly bringing the fire under control and ultimately putting it out”.
