Approximately $120.1 million of work was approved across 745 permits for the seven-day period ending July 22. Feeding Northeast Florida CEO discusses upgrades
Feeding Northeast Florida opened the doors to a new 120,000 square foot facility in Northwest Jacksonville Thursday. The space is set to provide an abundance much needed warehousing and cold-storage space for food distributed out to a 12-county area. The nonprofit also plans to offer programs for the local community to learn about food preparation, nutrition and enrolling in different benefits programs. <\p> Susan King, the president and CEO of Feeding Northeast Florida, discussed how the building is a major improvement for Feeding Northeast Florida.<\p>
North Jacksonville beauty store approved for a makeover
Ulta Beauty received a permit from the city of Jacksonville to remodel its store at 14964 Max Leggett Pkwy. in the Parkway Shops shopping center across from River City Marketplace in north Jacksonville. <\p> Rectenwald Brothers will serve as the general contractor for the $490K update to the 9,932 square foot store. <\p>

The global technology outage caused by a CrowdStrike update pushed to Microsoft Windows devices impacted everything from airlines to banks Friday morning — and reinforced the need for companies to have procedures in place to handle disruptions when they occur.<\p> Systems were gradually coming back on line by late morning.<\p>
Canopy Road Cafe's 3rd location approved for construction
More funky breakfast plates are coming to Jacksonville from Canopy Road Cafe.<\p> Approved for a $276,027 buildout at 10560 Old St. Augustine Rd. in the Walmart-anchored Crossroads at Mandarin shopping center, this will be the third Northeast Florida locale and 13th overall for the Tallahassee-based breakfast restaurant.<\p>
More than a dozen flights canceled at JIA after global IT outage
A worldwide outage Friday morning at a global IT provider has canceled flights and caused dozens of delays at Jacksonville International Airport, as airlines found their computer systems down.<\p> At least 16 flights have been canceled at JIA, according to FlightAware. At least 36 flights are delayed in Jacksonville as of 10:30 a.m. after a worldwide IT issue grounded thousands of flights, FlightAware data shows.<\p>
St. Augustine's plan to build the ‘best mile in Florida’
Even in a city known for sticking to its historic roots, St. Augustine’s leadership knows when it’s time to do a little refurbishing. ¶ Prompted by the feeling that one of its main thoroughfares just doesn’t live up to the city’s reputation as being rather picturesque, the City of St. Augustine is about to embark on an $18 million project to revitalize King Street. ¶ The street is what guides many visitors into the heart of St. Augustine — either at the west end from U.S. 1 or the east end over the Bridge of Lions. ¶ <\p> It would probably be a stretch to call the project an overhaul because there’s only so much that can be changed due to existing buildings. But it's definitely going to be different.<\p>
Sasse to step down as UF president
Less than two years into the job, University of Florida President Ben Sasse on Thursday announced he will step down July 31 because of his wife’s health.<\p> “My wife Melissa’s recent epilepsy diagnosis and a new batch of memory issues have been hard, but we’re facing it together,” Sasse said in a prepared statement. “Our two wonderful daughters are in college, but our youngest is just turning 13. Gator Nation needs a president who can keep charging hard, Melissa deserves a husband who can pull his weight, and my kids need a dad who can be home many more nights.”<\p>

As Jacksonville’s Hispanic population grows, trucking companies are seeing an increased demand for Spanish speakers to serve their workforce and to pursue business opportunities.<\p> Linda Carrion, CEO and owner of Carry-on Transportation Solutions trucking company, said she sees her ability to switch between English and Spanish as an asset in providing transportation services and having to communicate with multiple people.<\p>
New franchisee receives permit to build another slice of Marco’s Pizza
Marco’s Pizza received a permit to construct a tenth Northeast Florida location just west of the busy Southside and Beach Boulevard intersection.<\p> GPN Architecture Inc. of Spartanburg, South Carolina served as the architect, and Dancor Construction will serve as the contractor for the $275,000 buildout. The new store is located in the Gates of Promenade plaza, anchored by Rowe’s IGA Supermarkets at 8567 Beach Blvd. <\p>

Electric Pizza Dough Co. is a go
Electric Pizza Dough Co. got the green light to launch construction of a Detroit-style pizza restaurant inside the historic San Marco Theatre at 1996 San Marco Blvd.<\p> With 4,462 square feet, the restaurant will have a 207-person capacity. Jacksonville-based Urban Partners Construction will serve as the construction manager for the $1 million build-out. <\p>
Community First Credit Union acquires land for new St. Johns branch
Community First Credit Union recently completed the purchase of a lot at State Road 207 and Brinkhoff Road that is slated to become its newest freestanding branch in St. Johns County. <\p> The Treaty Oaks location is scheduled to open in 2025. It will become the credit union’s 25th branch and fourth branch in St. Johns, which includes locations in St. Augustine and Murabella along with a new branch under construction at Beachwalk.<\p>
Builder pessimism grows with rising interest rates, added inventory
Homebuilders continue to offer a bevy of incentives to remain competitive, but sustained higher mortgage rates and an increase in the number of homes for sale is dampening their overall sentiment about market conditions. <\p> Major homebuilders like Lennar Corp. (NYSE: LEN) and D.R. Horton Inc. (NYSE: DHI), among others, have been offering various concessions to prospective buyers at a time of much-higher mortgage rates than a few years ago and record home-price appreciation. Among the more popular offerings is a mortgage-rate buydown, in which a builder will put points down to reduce a buyer's mortgage rate.<\p>
