    Mom tries to sell daughter, 10, for $20 and claims 'you can have her'

    A Florida woman was arrested for allegedly trying to sell her daughter. The woman in question attempted to sell her 10-year-old daughter for $20 and $5, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office .

    The 32-year-old mother allegedly approached a kindergarten teacher at a homeless shelter and told them to "take her with you". The woman is also claimed to have said that for $20 they "could have her".

    The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office stated: "This case is a stark reminder of the realities of human trafficking in our communities."

    The woman was charged with selling or surrendering a minor for money or property and child abuse .

    In a statement, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said: "This is a sad reminder that human trafficking does happen in our community. It often goes unreported." They urged anyone with information or concerns about human trafficking to contact their office or the National Human Trafficking Hotline.

    The 10-year-old child was "crying, hungry, and looking like she had no bathed in days," when taken to a local hospital, according to authorities . The child will stay in protective custody while the case goes on in court . Officials are to continue to gather more information and support the child. As for the mother, she is to remain in custody while the investigation proceeds.

    Allyn Kelly, a spokesperson for the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, said: "This child was in a severely lethargic state and clearly needed immediate help. Thanks to the quick actions of individuals who were approached, we were able to intervene and ensure the child's safety."
