Jaguars land Saints star cornerback in NFL analyst's trade proposal

The battle for supremacy in the AFC has become an arms race. The teams at the top keep re-tooling their offenses, and keep getting more and more explosive. If the teams fighting to stay relevant have any hope of competing, not only do they have to bolster their own offenses, but they have to add pieces on the defense to try and slow these potent offenses down.

That’s the situation the Jacksonville Jaguars find themselves in. They’ve done the work on the offense, locking up star quarterback Trevor Lawrence long-term , signing former Buffalo Bills wide receiver Gabe Davis and drafting Brian Thomas, Jr. out of LSU to bolster their receiving corps. Now it’s time to focus on stopping the other team’s offenses.

The Jaguars are relatively thin when it comes to the cornerback position. They have Tyson Campbell and Ronald Darby slated as starters right now, but the cupboard is pretty bare after that. That’s why one NFL analyst believes the team should reach out to the New Orleans Saints and work out a trade for Marshon Lattimore .

Lattimore has been a solid cornerback for the Saints over the years. But the team recently restructured his contract, and with other players up for extensions soon, Lattimore may be expendable. The Jaguars have a need for talent at the position, and have some draft capital they could part with to make a deal happen.

Recently, fellow AFC south competitors Tennessee pulled off a trade with the Kansas City Chiefs for cornerback L’Jarius Sneed . That deal saw the Titans give up a third round pick and a seventh to land Sneed’s services. Bleacher Report writer Alex Ballantine proposes that a third may be enough to entice the Saints into parting with Lattimore.

The Saints could certainly use the draft capital to help re-tool and add youth to their team, and the Jaguars desperately need more cover corners to keep up with the potent offenses they have to face. This is a deal that could be in the best interest of both squads.
