A majority of people think the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is doing a good job, according to a survey the department conducted.

Nearly 90% feel safe in their neighborhood, but half feel the department needs more officers. And more than half of Black respondents said they feared being victims of police brutality, a 10% drop from the last survey two years ago.

An outside firm conducted the phone survey in May. It included 600 people in all six police zones.

Overall, more than half of respondents believe that the Sheriff’s Office does a good job investigating its own officer-involved shootings. Twenty-two percent disagree.

Gun violence was the public safety issue that concerned people the most, followed by illegal drug use. The full survey can be found on the transparency.jaxsheriff.org website.
