Forty years after it first opened its doors, Outback Crabshack in St. Johns County is reopening this weekend. The popular restaurant along the bank of Sixmile Creek suffered significant damage from Hurricane Matthew in 2016 and has been closed ever since.

Work on the restaurant’s new building has been underway for years, and it will reopen under the new ownership of local restaurateurs Nathan Stuart and Margo Klar. The couple own a handful of restaurants in Jacksonville, St. Johns County and Tallahassee.

The couple were also the owners of Beach Road Fish House and Chicken Dinners in Jacksonville, which closed last year to make way for apartments.

While Outback Crabshack’s grand reopening is this weekend, the restaurant has been plating up seafood favorites this past week in support of the local V for Victory veterans organization.

The grand reopening event this weekend promises to be a big event , with live music and plenty of space on the restaurant’s new dock to park a boat if you don’t feel like taking your car there. The event begins at 11 a.m. Saturday and runs through Sunday.
