An Englewood High School student was arrested Monday after multiple guns, including an assault rifle, were found in their vehicle on campus, the principal says.

Principal Marleny Chirino sent parents “a message about the safety and security of our school and the life-changing consequences that students can face if they make the wrong decisions.”

Chirino informed parents that police had taken a weapons detection dog to the Southside school. As the dog searched the parking lot off Barnes Road, he alerted on a car that contained an assault rifle, handguns and ammunition.

The student was arrested on a felony charge, the principal’s message said. “In addition to the criminal consequences that may emerge from this event,” the message said, “I assure you that I will pursue the highest possible disciplinary consequences under the student code of conduct.”

The student’s name, age and gender were not released.

Treat mental illness it’s rampant we didn’t have gun violence in school and you could leave your windows down in parking lot and no one would get guns out of the rack in your back window in your pickup truck
