Do you know why cats are so obsessed with bathrooms? Maybe your cat follows you in there. It might even rub against your legs or jump into the sink when you’re not around. Some cats meow loudly or paw at the closed door.

Cats often seem to crave more attention when you’re in the bathroom than anywhere else. What’s the big draw for them?

A Bathroom Is a Great Place to Play

To some cats, bathrooms are like playgrounds. They can spin around in the tub and bat at toilet paper rolls. Towels and robes hanging on the wall might be irresistible. Cats can roll around on the floor and play with rugs or bath mats. Whether you’re there or not, they can make a mess. Many owners have returned home to find their cats have created a disaster in the bathroom. Luckily, you won’t find anything too gross, like accidents in the sink or tub!

    Closed Doors Pique Curiosity

Cats hate closed doors. A closed bathroom door can drive them wild, especially when you’re on the other side. Over time, they learn that you often shut that door. They want to be there to see what’s happening. Cats always want to know what’s going on in their territory. If they had a rule, it’d be that no doors should ever be closed!

It’s a Great Time to Get Attention

Cats love attention—on their terms. Who can resist a sweet cat rubbing against your legs while you’re on the toilet? Your cat knows you’re “trapped” for a few minutes and it’s an easy time to get your attention. They also know you’re not distracted by other things, like TV or work. You’re just there, ready to return their affection. Many cats also enjoy licking you after a bath or shower. They’re such silly kitties!

    Sinks Are Like Cat Beds

Think about the sink. Its rounded shape fits a cat perfectly. The coolness of the sink can feel great in warm weather. During colder months, your cat’s body heat might make the sink cozy. Some cats even lick water droplets from the faucet while lounging in the sink.

    Water, Believe It or Not

Most cats don’t like being wet, but many love being around water. In the bathroom, they can drink fresh water from the sink or tub faucet. Some cats enjoy playing with running water. They might even lick the wet tub or drink bathwater!

    Cats Enjoy Routines

Visiting you in the bathroom can become a fun routine for your cat, especially if you give them attention. They might also be looking forward to mealtime if that’s part of your morning routine.

    Your Cat Loves You

The bathroom is full of your scent, their favorite human! You do important things in there, or at least it seems that way to your cat. They might enjoy watching you brush your teeth or do your hair. Bathroom time can be a special bonding moment for you and your cat!
