Jalen Hurts is showing his support in the wake of the passing of Houston high school football player Jarvon Coles.

Coles, a senior and North Shore High School football player, was found unresponsive at a party with a gunshot wound Saturday night.

Hurts, a Houston native, attended Channel View High School -- a known rival of North Shore High School.

Upon learning of Coles' passing, Hurts pledged to pay for the funeral expenses of the Houston teen, according to NFL.com reporter Ian Rapoport.

Coles was a two-time first-team all-district linebacker with a 4.1 GPA. The standout teen was accepted into 15 colleges and was set to play college football at Lamar University, his grandfather, Braxton Coles, told KHOU-TV.

Kyle Herridge, one of Coles' coaches, shared a statement on X following the devastating news:

"You cannot measure the impact [Jarvon] had on and off the field in our program. Truly an incredible human being. Prayers needed for his family, our student athletes, our staff and the entire North Shore community. Rest easy Jarvon Coles."

On Saturday morning, hundreds paid their last respects to Coles. Hurts sent his condolences to the family via video message and he was not the only public figure to honor the late teen.

Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee and Houston Mayor John Whitmire declared March 16 "Jarvon Coles Day."

“He was the type of person that everybody should strive to be like,” Domenique Mitchell, a family friend, told NBC affiliate KPRC-TV.
