The Fairfield Tomato & Vine Festival will be going on through the weekend of August 17-18 in Fairfield, California. The location of the festival is downtown Fairfield, California and there is no admission price.

    Family Fun, Including Kids Activities:

This is the 33rd annual festival that attracts families in Solano County for a weekend to celebrate the community and delicious tomatoes. It always has a variety of things to do. They have a kids zone that is located, and the County Green (corner of Jefferson and Texas Street), which will have pony rides, a petting zoo with several different animals, as well as small train rides.

There is live music with two stages and a tomato eating contest, which attracts competitive eaters and amateurs alike. They also have a golf experience that will help you improve your golf game. There is a food court and a wine and bear court.

The center stage though is the tomato, and there will be 25 different varieties available for sampling and purchase. There are 3 types of tomatoes featured, including heirlooms, classic hybrids, and cherry tomatoes, which are a favorite with kids. Tomatoes such as the San Marzano Roma, the torch, black cherry tomatoes, and cherokee purple and chocolate will all be available, including many others.

Along with the tomato festival, they also have a custom car show with several cars to see. The owners are more than happy to talk to people about their cars and give them pointers and tips on their vehicles.

    Canning Demonstrations:

A very popular thing at the festival are the canning demonstrations, which are located on Jackson Street. People can see how to can tomatoes and preserve their flavor. They also sell a variety of canning products. Organizers state that you can ask questions and learn from the experts and see how easy it is. Canning demonstrations for Saturday are at 1, 2, & 3 pm. On Sunday, there are 2 demonstrations at 1 & 3 pm.
