While the NY Jets media and fanbase spent most of the offseason dreaming of Super Bowl scenarios, they forgot that games were won on the field. The San Francisco 49ers gave them a big wakeup call on Monday night. In a game that was pretty much over by halftime, the 49ers beat the Jets 32-19 before an excited crowd at Levi's Stadium.

There were worries that without star running back Christian McCaffrey, the 49ers running game would struggle, but undrafted backup running back Jordan Mason ran the ball physically 28 times for 147 yards and 1 touchdown. On the other side of the ball, the 49ers front 7 showed it's muscle, with Rodgers being hurried at times, throwing for only 167 yards on 13-21 passing with 1 touchdown and one interception. They also stopped the run game holding the Jets to 68 yards rushing on 19 carries. One bright spot for the Jets came when Rodgers hit Allen Lazard on a 36-yard touchdown pass late in the third quarter. At that time, though, the 49ers lead was cut to 26-13. Rodgers sat out part of the 4th quarter when the 49ers had the game well in hand.

One sour note was that the 49ers were only 2-5 in the red zone, scoring touchdowns, but kicker Jake Moody made his fantasy owners happy by hitting on 6 of 6 field goals, including a 53-yarder. The 49ers Brock Purdy had a nice night going 19-29 for 231 yards but no touchdowns or interceptions.

The Jets now travel to Tennessee to take on the Titans before their home opener with the New England Patriots, and the 49ers will travel to Minnesota next week to play the Vikings before going to Los Angeles to play their rivals, the Rams.
