A story that is getting more bizarre by the day; it looks like Christian McCaffrey is hurt more than the 49ers are saying. In a report by NFL Networks Ian Rapoport he said it was a longshot that McCaffrey can play against the Vikings. Some are saying if it's unlikely he plays this week, then why did the 49ers wait until the day of the game to announce that he would be out against the Jets?

According to head coach Kyle Shanahan, the running back has a lingering calf injury along with achilles tendinitis. McCaffrey has said he is ready to play, but the 49ers are reluctant to play him in games early in the season. The tendinities can weaken the Achilles tendon, which can lead to the tearing of it, which would be a season-ending injury for a very important player.

One thing the NFL has always demanded from their teams is honesty about players injuries. From the courtesy of opponents strategy in knowing who is playing, to gambling outlets losing lots of money on false information, the NFL takes injury updates very seriously. When backup running back Jordan Mason said that he found out that he would be starting was on Friday, but the 49ers didn't tell the NFL until Monday.

The NFL at this time says they will not be investigating the issue of possibly not being honest about McCaffrey's injury with the 49ers.

It's obvious that the 49ers want to be careful with their star running back, especially with this being such an important year before Brock Purdy gets a huge raise next year.
