Chipotle To Use Robots In Southern California Restaurants

In a sign of what the future will eventualy hold, Chipotle has entered the robotic age. The company will use what it calls “cobots” or “collaborative robots” in two southern California locations.

The robots will work together, with one making guacamole and the other filling your place with some of their classic staples, like beans, cheese, and other vegetables.

Automation has been tried and is being used in various restaurants around the state of California and the country to mixed reviews. In some areas, it is going fairly smoothly but other restaurants have limited or stopped using robotics all together so that they can fix the bugs in their systems.

Chipotle is calling the machine that skins the Avocado, the “Autocado”. The autocado machine will be used in the Huntington Beach store and will skin, cut, and core the avocado so that it can be prepared to make guacamole.

The other machine will be called the “Automated Makeline” and will go in the store at Corona Del Mar.
