John Fisher's Letter To Oakland A's Fans Sparks Outrage

It's hard. Four generations of A's fans say goodbye to their Oakland A's. The last game will be Thursday.Photo bywww.piedmontexedra.com website

A letter that Oakland A's owner John Fisher wrote to A's fans was taken for what it was. A selfish manipulation to get Oakland A's fans to still support the team in Las Vegas. Asking A's fans to come along for the ride was puzzling at best, but his statement that he wanted to make the A's fans proud was bizarre even for him.

Fisher Could Have Made It Better:

Some say, what could he have done? Well he could have given big discounts on certain days or have special pricing or made the bleachers $1 every Tuesday. Instead, he raised ticket prices. Rich people don't get rich because they are cheap. Some are just cheap.

The A's admitted that in early 2023 they had already moved on even though meetings continued with the city of Oakland. In 2023, he could have said we'll pop in a few million and spruce up the Coliseum a bit and play there until we go to Vegas. He could have been sympathetic and thought about the fans that had generational ties to the team and allowed the Coliseum workers to relocate or do a long commute to continue to work in Sacramento. Instead, he dumped half their staff and used the city as a financial pawn. Fisher now has told players not to take photos with fans after the last game and to just get out of there quickly.

    The Ghosts of Teams Past:

The Raiders are a hot mess, losing the blue collar and tough identity that Oakland gave them. The Oakland Coliseum, once the most intimidating and hated place to play was replaced by a stadium where sportsbooks won't give them points anymore when they are at home.

The Warriors traded the gritty toughness of Oakland and one of the best home court advantages for the wine and cheese fest in San Francisco. Chase can be loud if things are going good but it's nowhere near as loud as Oracle. The Warriors were 21-20 at Chase Center last year. When Curry retires and they struggle, does anyone think that place will be packed?

The same will happen to the A's. The A's and the New York Yankees are the only teams in baseball history that won three championships in a row. And if you add the Philadelphia days, they are the only 2 teams in baseball history that have won back to back titles more than once. Literally, the second-best dynasty in baseball history is being ruined by a guy that has no clue how to run a professional sports team or how to properly treat people.

Most see the new stadium turning into a neutral site just like the Raiders have. Visiting fans will pour in for a weekend in Vegas while locals get tutors for their kids because instead of funding the 45th-ranked state in public school spending and giving raises to teachers, they gave $380 million to John Fisher.

And the most important thing sports wise is that the glory that the Warriors, Raiders, and A's achieved was partly due to the passion & loyalty of the very fans and city that they are leaving. The Raiders and A's especially are going to find out the hard way that without Oakland, all glory truly is fleeting.
