    Heat's on the way. Here's where to go to cool off

    JANESVILLE — Dangerous heat is on the way for southern Wisconsin this weekend. Designated cooling centers in the Rock County and surrounding area will be open. Their hours vary, with some open Saturdays but closed on Sundays.

    Saturday’s high temperature in Janesville is expected to be 89 degrees. With humidity it may feel closer to 94 degrees. Sunday’s high temperature is expected to be 91 degrees. With humidity it may feel closer to 100.

    Here’s a list of local cooling centers where you can go to escape the heat:

    Rock County

    Many local cooling centers will be open across Rock County this weekend.

    Uptown Janesville, 2500 Milton Ave., in Janesville, is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Youth ages 12 and younger need to be accompanied by an adult.The Milton Public Library, 430 E. High St., in Milton, is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday.The Edgerton Public Library, 101 Albion St., in Edgerton, is open 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and closed on Sunday. Youth ages 12 and younger need to be accompanied by an adult.The Eager Free Public Library, 39 W. Main St., Evansville, is open on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., and closed on Sunday.The lobby of the Brodhead Police Department, 1004 W. Exchange St., in Brodhead, is open 24 hours, 7 days a week. The number is (608) 897-4018.The emergency room waiting room at Beloit Memorial Hospital, 1969 W. Hart Road, in Beloit, is an extreme temperatures only site. It is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.And on Saturday, the Beloit Public Library, 605 Eclipse Blvd., in Beloit, is open 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. It is closed on Sunday.

    Walworth County

    In Walworth County, the public libraries are the local cooling centers. All are closed on Sunday. On Saturday they are open the following hours:

    The Irvin L. Young Memorial Library, 431 W. Center St., Whitewater, is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.The Barrett Memorial Library, 65 W. Geneva St., Williams Bay, is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.The Darien Public Library, 47 Park St., in Darien, is open is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.The Aram Public Library, 404 E. Walworth Ave., in Delavan, is open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.The East Troy Lions Public Library, 3094 Graydon Ave., in East Troy, is open 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.The Matheson Memorial Library, 101 N. Wisconsin St., in Elkhorn, is open 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.The Fontana Public Library, 166 Second Avenue, in Fontana, is open from 9 a.m. to p.m. The Fontana Public Library is in the lower level of that community’s village hall.The Genoa City Public Library, 126 Freeman St., in Genoa City, is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.The Brigham Memorial Library, 131 Plain St., in Sharon, is open 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.The Walworth Memorial Library, 525 Kenosha St., in Walworth, is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

    Jefferson County

    The following cooling centers are open this weekend in the Jefferson County area:

    The Dwight Foster Public Library, 209 Merchants Ave., in Fort Atkinson, is open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. It’s closed Sunday.The lobby of the Metroflex Gym Wisco, 1417 Industrial Ave., Jefferson, is open both Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Contact Kevin Neibuhr at (920) 220-1140.
