JANESVILLE -- Three candidates are now in the running for the 44th state Assembly District.

Bruce Danielson, a lifelong Janesville resident and Janesville police officer, announced his candidacy on Saturday, running as a

Republican. Also running are Democrats Cathy Myers and Ann Roe.

State Rep. Sue Conley, who currently holds the seat, is not seeking re-election.

The 44th District includes most of the city of Janesville, the village of Footville and surrounding rural areas.

“For several years, I have looked forward to the opportunity to serve this community as your representative to the Wisconsin State Assembly, and it is with immense pleasure and sincerity that I announce my candidacy," Danielson said in a release.

"As a law enforcement officer, I have seen firsthand how our laws impact the citizens of our state. My career has required me to approach problems with calmness and sensibility. These experiences will aid me as I serve as your representative.”

    Myers

Cathy Myers is a current Janesville School Board member.

After 28 years as an educator, Myers was named a union president and vice president. Valuing inclusion, she guided students who wanted to create a gay-straight alliance, as well as an environmental club.

She also organized a neighborhood group that focuses on educating the public on the benefits of collective bargaining when those rights were legislated away for most public service employees. She was a board member for the Red Road House, a Citizens Climate Lobby member and served on the city of Janesville’s Advisory Committee on Appointments.

She is currently the president of the Zonta Club of Janesville and has also been a part of an advocacy group, The 14th, that calls for protecting women’s reproductive healthcare and abortion access.

    Roe

Roe has taught part-time at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater for more than 25 years. Prior to that, she was the executive director of the Beloit Janesville Symphony Orchestra.

Roe consulted the Janesville School District on the Wisconsin Forward recognition. She serves on the boards of Downtown Janesville, Janesville Woman’s Club and the Foundation for the Preservation of 108 S. Jackson. She is also a member of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Rock County Dean’s Advisory Board and Janesville Morning Rotary Club.

    Danielson

Danielson is a 1991 high school graduate of Janesville’s Parker High School. Following graduation, Bruce entered basic training for the Marine Corps Reserves.

In 1995, Danielson joined the Rock County Sheriff’s Office as a corrections officer and field training officer. As a Janesville police officer, he now serves on the Crisis Intervention Team, safety committee, Peer Group and Mentor, and operator for the armored SWAT vehicle. He has also worked with the homeless population as a member of the Homeless Outreach Team and is seeking to be a prospective member of an area homeless shelter.

“If elected, I will work to improve career readiness opportunities for students through apprenticeship programs at our high schools and hands-on training with state-of-the-art technology. Further, I will utilize my experience in law enforcement to stand by our officers and ensure they have the tools to keep our community safe. Lastly, I will work to ensure our community and schools have the resources they need to thrive," the release said.
