JANESVILLE — The Boys & Girls Club of Janesville says it’s hit the halfway point in fundraising for a new facility.

The club announced on Friday that its capital and endowment campaign “Building Great Futures for Our Youth & Community,” has raised $6 million in just under a year, toward a $12 million goal.

In a release, the club said it has a waiting list of over 100 youth because it’s at capacity in its current building attached to the Janesville YMCA, 200 W. Court St.

It began raising funds in 2023 to build a new facility at 925 S. Jackson St. to meet the growing need in Janesville for affordable afterschool and summer child care.

“With the help of our incredible donors and strong community support, we have been able to reach historical fundraising success in Janesville in this short period of time,” the release said.

The club says it will continue fundraising and plans to break ground when $9 million or more has been secured.

“We had an aggressive goal to break ground, as we are eager to serve the hundred kids on our waitlist. Like most campaigns, we have experienced a couple of things outside our control, including taking a year to acquire the land, and soil contamination that needs to be addressed,” CEO Rebecca Veium said in the release.

“As a nonprofit organization, we are committed to being fiscally responsible and good stewards of our donor funds and will continue our fundraising efforts before breaking ground.”

The new facility will triple the number of youths the Boys & Girls Club can serve. Currently, it can serve up to 60 elementary youth and 10 teens each day. The 35,000-square-foot new building will serve up to 180 elementary youth and 80 teens each day.

Not only does the Boys & Girls Club provide affordable after school at a cost of $20 per month, and full time summer care at $70 per week, “but we are also serving as an extension of the school day by utilizing nationally developed, evidence-based programming every day proven to produce outcomes in academic success, healthy lifestyles, and workforce readiness,” the release noted.

“We are excited to bring this transformational project to this area of town. The new state-of-the-art facility, with a commercial kitchen to serve meals, will be a beacon to the neighborhood, businesses, and entrepreneurs that the area is open and critical to the continued redevelopment of this part of Janesville,” Veium said, “all while better serving parents and youth in our community.”

The Boys & Girls Club plans to honor contributions of $1,500 or more on a donation wall in the new facility. “However, no gift is too small to make an impact,” the release said.
