Janesville Craig graduate Jake Schaffner had two hits in the Northwoods League All-Star Game in Mankato, Minnesota, on Tuesday night.

Schaffner has been playing this summer with the Madison Mallards in the wood-bat Northwoods League. He made the Great Lakes All-Star Team after hitting .371 and compiling an on-base plus slugging percentage (OPS) of .956.

He’s driven in 25 runs with one homer, scored 34 runs and stolen 14 bases in 18 attempts.

He also scored a run in Tuesday’s NWL All-Star Game, which the Great Lakes team won over the Great Plains All-Stars 9-2.

After graduating from Craig High in 2023, Schaffner joined the baseball team at North Dakota State University and made an impact for the Bison as a true freshman. He led the team in batting average with a .337 clip and posted an OPS of .857. North Dakota State picked Schaffner as the male rookie of the year across its entire athletic department in May.

Schaffner and the Mallards return to action this week with home games against the Rockford Rivets at 6:05 p.m. Thursday and 6:35 p.m. Friday and against the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters at 6:05 p.m. Saturday. The Mallards play their home games at Warner Park.
