After being dismissed from his role at Haas, Gunther Steiner is set to return to the F1 scene in Bahrain for the inaugural race of the 2024 Formula 1 season.

At 58 years old and known for his dynamic presence in Netflix’s Formula 1 documentary series ‘Drive To Survive,’ Steiner is stepping into a new role as a TV analyst with German network RTL.

RTL, having reached an agreement with Sky Deutschland, will broadcast seven out of the season’s 24 races live, featuring circuits such as Hungary, Spa, Zandvoort, Monza, Baku, and the new Las Vegas track.

“Gunther is a real character who is extremely popular among many Formula 1 fans,” said RTL executive Inga Leschek.

Steiner split with Haas owner Gene Haas over the future direction of the struggling F1 outfit, amid rumours he was demanding equity in the American outfit in exchange for a $20 million new sponsor.

Billionaire Haas turned it down – handing F1 broadcasting an experienced and charismatic new TV pundit.

“I will say what I think but remain neutral,” Steiner told Osterreich newspaper. “But obviously I do speak plainly.”
