Coos Bay garage sale tips that can help you make the most of your options

In Coos Bay, there are generally a few people having garage sales on any given day. How do you find them and how do you get the best deals on items?

The Shopper

The South Coast Shopper (called the Shopper by locals) is a local publication that features listings that include garage sales. You can generally find it at grocery stores, smoke shops, and all kinds of other businesses in Coos Bay. Just go to a local store like McKay's in Empire on Thursday to get the latest Shopper in physical form.

If you don't want to deal with getting the Shopper from a store, you can find it online at https://www.southcoastshopper.com/ which lets you access a digital version. Just click the banner that says "READ our e-Edition" to read the current Shopper or to check out previous editions.

Check Facebook

Many people post their garage sales on Facebook. There is a section that you can visit by clicking here that shows you what some of your options are at any given point in time. You can even send a message to someone who shared a garage sale through Facebook to check if they still have items that you have seen in their photos.

There is a group called "What's Happening Coos County" where many locals share information about what's going on in the area. They have rules when you sign up for the group so be sure you follow them because there are group admins that watch over what is posted.

Looking For A Sign

Of course, you can always drive or walk around areas to see if there are any signs. Usually people will try to post them where they know a lot of vehicles will pass.

There are usually a bunch of garage sale signs in the grass in front of College Park Community Church on the side of the road. This is east of the Walmart just a bit down Newmark, if that helps anyone that hasn't seen the signs before. You can park at the church to get out and look at the signs since it's hard to do so when driving by.

Coos Bay Garage Sale Tips

When you're at a garage sale remember that haggling is always an option but don't get too cheap when an item is already really affordable. Many times you can bundle a few items at a garage sale to save money so be sure to ask if there is a discount when buying more than one of something.

Remember to show up to sales early if you want to have a good chance of finding the good stuff. Don't be afraid to ask if they have something inside that you're a collector of, like video games or more books they may not have put out.
