When you have a money issue with a parent, things can get a bit crazy. Whether they don't consider it borrowing to take from a family member or perhaps they want to take way more time than usual paying it back, it's usually best to not borrow money from family members.

First, we will talk about a couple of Oregon law facts. The story will be below that so keep scrolling to find it if that's what you're here for!

    Oregon Theft Law Facts

In Oregon, the lowest level of theft is theft in the third degree. This includes stealing any property or service worth up to $100. Theft in the second degree includes stealing product and services worth $100 or more up to $1,000.

First degree theft in Oregon is when the stolen property or service is worth more than $1,000. It's also considered first degree theft if the stealing happens during a riot or a catastrophe of some kind.

A first degree theft charge can end with someone getting up to 5 years in prison and $125,000 in fines. Needless to say, some of the laws are not good to break, even if many times the state of Oregon won't go after everyone legally that gets in trouble.

Person Calls Their Mom A Thief

On Reddit, someone created a post about how their mom spent $2000 that was theirs on an emergency. The family dog needed it for a medical event and OP was told about it later when they wanted to put the money towards a car but was told they couldn't.

There was a big fight over this many years ago and that was that. The mother didn't really bring it up again but she got some money due to a disability, around $43,000 or so but OP isn't sure if that's the exact amount.

Once that money was known about, OP's mom said the $2,000 would be coming their way shortly. However, the mother kept spending and spending and never did get OP their money back.

This has caused a lot of problems in the home and at one point the mother gave OP $200 of it but nothing more. The OP got into an accident and wanted to use the money to cover some repairs, but ultimately didn't get anything else.

OP and their mom got into a fight and they called their mom a thief. They also said they would take their mother to court if they had to. Now OP isn't sure if they are in the right or not and made their post.

Most commenters on the post are on OP's side. One even says to go the court route, and so far there are no commenters that are on the mother's side. That can always change but soon after they made their post OP has the support of commenters.

So what do you think? Is OP a bad person for wanting this money back and expecting to be paid back even after all these years? Should the mother pay the money back as soon as possible or is it not fair to her for some reason? Comment what you think below!
