MAXINE E. SPITLER FOUNDATION AWARD RECIPIENTS CHOSEN
(NEWTON/LAWRENCEVILLE) The Maxine E. Spitler Foundation has announced this year’s recipients of the 2024 annual awards that went to Jasper County and Lawrence County organizations that provide activities for youth or sponsor projects that care for domestic and wild animals or saving any animal species in danger of extinction. With nearly $32,000 given out to the various groups, here’s the breakdown, with different amounts going to all of the total fourteen applicants. $20,549.27 will be distributed to nine applicants in Jasper County, while the remaining $11,443.10 will be given to the five applicants from Lawrence County. The Foundation is in honor and remembrance of Maxine E. Spitler who passed away in 2019 at the age of 99, living in Newton. The business woman was born in Sandoval, but came to live in Sumner, graduating from the Bridgeport High School & attended junior college at Olney Central College. The Foundation has given out grants for over 35 years. We will take a look at the 2024 recipients in our news reports next Monday and Tuesday.
THE JASPER COUNTY FAIR WINDS DOWN THIS WEEKEND
(NEWTON) The 153rd Jasper County Fair in winding down this week on the fairgrounds in Newton with newly crowned Miss Jasper County Fair Queen 20 year old Elise Wright overseeing all the activities. The popular Antique Farm Machinery Show is today from 11:00 to 2:00 and the Whippoorwill Rodeo is tonight at 7:00. Then the popular Demolition Derby will finish things up tomorrow night at 6:00. Plus all the great fair concessions, games, exhibits, and more, all on the fairgrounds in Newton the rest today through tomorrow night. JASPER COUNTY HAS A NEW FAIR QUEEN!
(NEWTON) The Jasper County Fair has a new queen as crowned during last night’s 2024 Miss Jasper County Fair Queen Pageant in Newton. Congratulations to Elise Wright, the 20 year old daughter of Dusty & Michele Wright of Newton. The 2022 Newton Community High School graduate and Cosmetology student at Lake Land College will now oversee the rest of this year’s Jasper County Fair, plus represent the fair and county for the next year at various events and at the Miss Illinois County Fair Queen Pageant held in Springfield next January. Also congratulations to First Runner-Up 18 year old Madalyn Rauch, who also was received the People’s Choice recognition. 20 year old Alex Osborne was noted as Miss Congeniality, plus also received the Best Interview Award. A huge “thank you” to all the other pageant contestants & all the great sponsors that helped make the return of the County Fair Queen Pageant to this year’s fair a success. Again, congrats to new queen Elise Wright of Newton.
