County commissioners deny Caribou property owner’s tax abatement appeal
Aroostook County Commissioners denied a Caribou property owner’s tax abatement appeal on Wednesday during their regular meeting in Houlton. For the past three years, Dana Cassidy, who owns multiple properties in the County, has been trying to get the value of his 63 Sweden Street, Caribou property reduced from $1,383,000 to $150,000. Cassidy said that the city used different assessment factors from other city properties and that he was unjustly discriminated against when they were assessing his property.

WCMP Diabetes Services to offer foot care clinics
BELFAST — Waldo County General Hospital will begin offering diabetic foot care clinics for patients beginning early this fall. The day-long clinics, which will run by appointment only out of the hospital’s diabetes care offices at 119 Northport Ave., in Belfast, will provide foot care including nail trimming, callous removal and wound identification. The practice plans to offer clinics once or twice a month, depending on patient volume.

Mya will be attending University of Maine at Farmington for education, and plans to come back to MSAD #49 to be a teacher and give back to the community that inspired her. The Boothbay 36ers completed their regular season schedule July 16 with a 9-6 loss to the first-place Franklin Flyers at Sherman Field. The 36ers finished with a 5-8-1 record in American Legion play and now wait to learn about their post-season eligibility. Boothbay currently holds the final Maine Southern Zone playoff spot, but a Dirigo Sturgeon victory later this week over Messalonskee could result in a one-game playoff. “We hold that final spot, but a Dirigo win could force a play-in.
