A storm preparation for Jefferson Parish residents

JEFFERSON, LA - The Tropical Depression Nine with gradual reinforcement to a tropical storm continues to the west-central Caribbean. The storm is predicted to get in the Southeastern Gulf either on late Friday or early Saturday. The impacts of the local area are estimated from late this weekend until early next week.

Both Jefferson Parish Administration and the Emergency Management and Public Works Department monitor and are prepared in the possibility of a storm. About 194 permanent pumps in Jefferson Parish are available. Grand Isle and Lafitte will get additional portable pumps.

Residents are asked to cleaning the gutters from leaves and debris to allow the rain to get on the drain. The garbage can be placed on the curbside on the scheduled days to anticipate the heavy rain all over the weekend. In case heavy rain occurs, residents can put the bins on their property. This is to prevent the debris from clogging the drains if a flood happens.

During severe weather, all residents are requested to remain indoors and not staying close to the windows. Use the interior ground floor in case a tornado happens. Drivers are advised to be more cautious during heavy rain. Motorists are not allowed to travel on flooded streets by Parish Ordinance Section 36-188.

Residents are recommended to get weather alerts and information from many sources, such as local news, weather radio, and smartphones. Make sure to keep the devices nearby and charged.
