St. Tammany Parish's river condition after the hurricane

ST. TAMMANY, LA - The President of St. Tammany Parish, Mike Cooper, monitored the river conditions after Hurricane Ida. He urged all residents to take precautions and remain vigilant, especially those who are living nearby the rivers that flooded back in 2016. Residents are encouraged to monitor both the river levels and weather forecasts.

Tchefuncte River near Covington was at the normal stage, at 10.85 feet. A fast rise, around 18 feet in the river was expected to begin around noon on Sunday and reach the moderate level on Monday morning. The 28 feet crest will put the river to a major flood stage. Flooding may occur in Camp Tchefuncte, lower properties in the Goodbee area, outside the Tantella Ranch Road, Flower Estates, Old Landing, and Riverbend Lane.

Bogue Falaya River at Boston Street was at the normal stage, at 3.54 feet. A fast rise was expected at around night on Sunday and will reach the moderate flood stage on Tuesday morning. River Bend Road, Christ Episcopal School, Bogue Falaya Park, LA 21, and E. Boston Street are estimated to be flooded.

As for Bogue Falaya River near Camp Covington, it was at the normal stage, at 35.61 feet. On Sunday noon, a rapid rise in the river was expected and will reach a moderate flood stage on Tuesday morning at 56 feet of the crest. Lower properties outside Million Dollar Road and near St. Joseph Abbey will be flooded. Another flooding is estimated at parts of Million Dollar Road close to KC Camp Road.

Bogue Chitto River near Bush was at the normal stage, at 4.38 feet. On Sunday night, a rise was expected and will reach a moderate flood stage of 14.5 feet by Tuesday midnight. Residents at the low-lying area of the upstream and downstream side of LA 21 Bridge near Bush should be prepared for possible flooding.

At the Pearl River, it was at the normal stage, at 9.46 feet. A flood with a crest of 17.5 feet is predicted to occur on Monday noon. Gum Bayou may cause flooding in the River Garden Subdivisions. Another flooding is estimated to occur in Subdivisions south of I-10 and east of Military Road.
