Expectations are high for Jeannette alum Marcus Barnes, who is primed for his senior football season at William & Mary.

A safety, Barnes was selected to the East-West Shrine Bowl 1,000, a watch list for the annual senior all-star game set for Jan. 30 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

The East-West committee will select the lineup for the game. The watch list identifies players who are considered potential NFL draft picks or free-agent signees.

Barnes recently was named an All-Coastal Athletic Association preseason honorable mention.

A starter for most of his college career, Barnes (6-3, 190) was an all-conference player last season when he made 54 tackles and had one interception.

He has 145 career tackles and five interceptions.

    Football

Delaware: Grad student lineman Fintan Brose (Hempfield) was named to the All-Colonial Athletic Association Preseason Team.

The 6-foot-2, 304-pound Brose, a third-team all-conference pick the last two years, began his college career as a defensive lineman before switching sides.

Last season, he helped the Blue Hens rush for 160.2 yards per game.

Delaware was picked to finish fifth by CAA coaches.

    Women’s golf

Thomas Jefferson: Nick Nguyen (Norwin) is set to begin his third season as head coach of the Rams, but he also has accepted the top coaching position with the women’s team.

He will begin his first season with the women this fall.

A Thomas Jefferson graduate who played golf for the Rams from 2014-18 and was a three-time team MVP, Nguyen has guided the men to eight top-three finishes, including a win at the Albright Invitational.

Thomas Jefferson is a Division II program in Philadelphia.

    Honors

Westminster: Former swimming standout Matt Baurle (Penn-Trafford), a 2016 Westminster graduate, will be inducted into the Titan Sports Hall of Fame.

Baurle was a four-time All-Presidents’ Athletic Conference first team selection, and was the conference’s swimmer of the year in 2016.

He earned All-America honors at the 2013 and ‘16 NCAA Division III Championships. In 2013, he finished eighth in the 100-yard breaststroke in 55.93 seconds.

He placed 15th nationally in 2016 in the 200 breaststroke (2:02.92).

Baurle has a school-record eight PAC individual titles.

The only Titans swimmer to win multiple event in four straight seasons, he won 15 PAC titles.

He holds school records in the 100 and 200 breaststrokes, as well as the 200 and 400 medley relays

The new hall class will be enshrined Sept. 13 at the McKelvey Campus Center. It also will be recognized during a home football game Sept. 14.
