A former Jefferson County judge is suing Chicago, arguing that city rescinded a job offer after she left her seat on the bench to work there. Tracie Todd, who served as a circuit criminal judge in the Birmingham division of Jefferson County for over a decade, left her position for a job as a city attorney in Chicago. Her departure came after years of battles with Alabama’s higher courts, some over a ruling she issued calling Alabama’s capital murder sentencing scheme unconstitutional.
Brothers found with gunshot wounds in yard of home north of Pinson after argument
JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. (WBRC) - The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department is investigating after two brothers were found shot in the front yard of a home. Henry Irby, a spokesperson for the sheriff’s department, said around 7:29 a.m. on Friday deputies responded to the 3000 block of Rose Hill Drive just north of Pinson. He says the brothers were involved in an argument with each other and shots were fired.

A Jefferson County auto shop has entered a sale-leaseback agreement with a California company.<\p> The Express Oil Change at 600 Allison-Bonnett Memorial Drive in Dolomite sold for $2.1 million on June 27. Express Oil Change LLC, the seller, entered a 20-year lease agreement the same day.<\p>
