Building Libraries for the Future
The Jeffco Commissioners are proud of the ongoing efforts at Jefferson County Public Library (JCPL) to build libraries for the future. Many exciting capital projects are underway including a redesign of the Arvada Library in Olde Town, planning for a new library in Northwest Jeffco, and ongoing site searches for library space in South County and Conifer. Trial delayed for JeffCo rock-throwing suspect for mental evaluation
The third and final suspect accused of throwing a rock into a car and killing a woman will undergo a mental health evaluation after the defense raised the issue of juvenile brain development.Attorneys for 19-year-old Joseph Koenig raised concerns about an ADHD diagnosis last month.The judge allowed the delay while saying he understood how upsetting it could be for the families and victims of the crime.Families of the victims quickly left the courtroom following the decision.20-year-old Alexa Bartell died after a rock was thrown into her moving car in Jefferson County in April of 2023. Two other suspects have already pleaded guilty in the case.The concerns raised by the defense mean Koenig will undergo a court evaluation which lawyers told the judge could take anywhere from eight weeks to eight months.

Half of popular Jeffco open space area will close until spring 2025
More than half of popular Elk Meadow Park near Evergreen has been closed for a major improvement project that is expected to take until next spring to complete. Jefferson County Open Space officials closed the southern half of the park on Monday to make way for a project that will include a major rebuild of the Stagecoach trailhead. Crews also will be working on trail maintenance and the removal of some trees to enhance forest health.

New mobile clinic to bring health care access to rural area, those with mobility challenges
JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. — Jefferson County Public Health is launching its first mobile clinic to take health care on the go. The clinic is inside a van that will travel through the county, offering the same services available at on-site clinics. The goal is to deliver services to people in rural areas, people with limited mobility and who don't have access to transportation.
