FSU Medical students visit Monticello

At the end of May, the Florida State University College of Medicine invited dozens of medical students to participate in their Rural Learning Experience in Jefferson County. The goal of this event was to encourage those who were pursuing careers in medicine to consider more rural areas to practice medicine upon graduation. While big cities have the resources to offer higher pay, it comes with big city living. By showcasing not only the need in rural communities for medical practices, but also the charm and benefits to living and working outside of the hustle and bustle of big-city living, FSU's College of Medicine hopes to entice individuals to consid.

Madison The Madison Lions Club hosts their annual God and Country July 4th celebration on the banks of Lake Francis, in Madison. The festivities begin at 5 p.m. and will continue until 9 p.m., capped off with a dazzling fireworks display. Tallahassee Don your red, white and blue and head to Tom Brown Park this Fourth of July for the City of Tallahassee's Celebrate America event from 6 to 10 p.m. Enjoy live music, food trucks, children's activities and a spectacular, patriotic fireworks display presented by the City of Tallahassee U.
Aucilla Research Institute will host a free summer archaeology program

The Aucilla Research Institute (ARI) is hard at work with their educational outreach activities, and as such, they have a special free summer program coming up to be held throughout the month of July. Beginning July 8, a free and fun summer program open to all Jefferson County students—including homeschoolers and interested students from nearby counties—will take place over the course of the month of July. Three times per week, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., educational meetings will be held at the ARI office in Monticello. Dr. Willet Boyer, Dr. Andy Hemmings and other ARI board members and volunteers will instruct.
