More school resource officers coming to Buckeye Local
DILLONVALE — Buckeye Local Schools will have some extra security this fall with more school resource officers patrolling the buildings. During Monday’s regular school board meeting, officials entered into a contract agreement and memorandum of understanding with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department and Wells Township Police Department to add deputies and police officers to the district’s four buildings. Longtime SRO Deputy Rodney Roe will return as district SRO and another deputy will serve at Buckeye Local Junior-Senior High School, while two more will be stationed at Buckeye South and West Elementary Schools and a Wells Township police officer will serve at Buckeye North Elementary.

Library factions can co-exist
It’s been two years since the public debate began over LGBTQIA+ books in the collection of the Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County. The library board has remained committed to providing materials inclusive of all people, including that community and others, like those of the Roman Catholic faith. The books are still here and the world has not ended. There are no reports of heterosexual children becoming homosexual nor gay children becoming straight. I consider that solid proof that we can co-exist here without trying to erase one another. Is there still homophobia or transphobia in our area? Of course, we still have a long way to go.
