Over a two-year period, six eye doctors in the Mount Washington Valley retired, leaving locals to drive an hour or more for routine eye care. Carolyn Letellier daydreamed about a solution. She had learned about a company called 20/20Now that provided telehealth eye exams, facilitated at local clinics by trained opticians like herself who provide eye exams but are not doctors.. A friend, Josee Cote, encouraged Letellier to write a business plan.

One person dead after crash in Richmond
RICHMOND, Maine — One person is dead after a fatal crash on Brunswick Road in Richmond early Saturday morning. First responders received a call for the crash around 6 a.m. Officials say when they arrived at the scene, the crash involved two pickup trucks: a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado and a 2003 Ford F-250. Police found the Silverado engulfed in flames in the ditch next to the road and the F-250 turned on its side.

Vermont Governor Phil Scott has requested that the Federal Emergency Management Agency conduct a Preliminary Damage Assessment to determine whether the state qualifies for a federal major disaster declaration for flooding and resulting damage on July 30 and July 31, 2024. The request asks for Public Assistance assessments in Caledonia, Essex, and Orleans counties and Individual Assistance assessments in Caledonia and Essex counties for damage caused by the storms. A very early assessment by the state has already discovered damage to public infrastructure resulting from the storm exceeding $6 million.

A mother and her two children have died in an apparent murder-suicide. Officers arrived at a home in Mechanic Falls, Maine, at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 27, to check for a U-Haul truck that had been reported stolen and had not been returned, according to Mechanic Falls Police Chief Jeffrey Goss.
