Students help spruce up City Hall grounds
Wilkes-Barre Mayor George Brown and City Councilman Stan Mirin (District C) welcomed students from Wilkes-Barre Area School District’s Creative and Performing Arts Academy to City Hall on Tuesday. The students presented the city with park benches and garbage covers that were designed and painted for the beautification of City Hall’s grounds.
The Travelling Talleys to perform at First Baptists Church in Waverly
On Saturday evening, July 27 at 6:30 p.m. and Sunday morning, July 28 at 11 a.m., the Travelling Talleys will be at the First Baptist Church in Waverly. Paul and Cindy Talley travel the country with “music that will warm your heart with a message that could change your life”. Their music ministry includes a variety of original and well-known songs with Cindy on bass guitar and Paul playing keyboards, trumpet, guitar, accordion and ukulele.

Editor's note: This is part one in a series looking at the history of Honesdale's park system. There was a time in Honesdale when residents brought their cows to graze in Central Park. It wasn't long, however, before the wishes prevailed of people who wanted the public square to be for children to toss a ball, build leaf forts, or make a snowman, or for adults to stroll, play croquet, listen to a brass band or just sit under leafy maple shade on a bright vermillion park bench.
Epilepsy Community and Resource Center schedules events
The Michael P. Loughlin Epilepsy Community and Resource Center, 845 Wyoming Ave., Kingston, is holding upcoming events for July. On July 27, the center will host a yoga session led by a certified instructor from 11 a.m. to noon. Donations are $5; bring your own yoga mat. On July 24, the center will host the monthly support meeting at 7 p.m. for those with epilepsy/seizure disorders and their families and friends. Waverly approves container moratorium, mulls camping ban
WAVERLY — During their monthly workshop meeting on Tuesday, the Waverly Board of Trustees approved a moratorium on shipping containers being set up in the village. Trustees passed the moratorium unanimously after discussing the issue last month, when Code Enforcement Officer Chris Robinson explained that shipping containers had begun popping up throughout the municipality as de facto structures without the proper building permits.
