Pa. firefighters battle 2-alarm restaurant fire
HANOVER TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A popular Italian restaurant in Hanover Township, Northampton County, is closed indefinitely after a Sunday morning fire. Roughly 10 fire companies, including the Hanover Township Volunteer Fire Company, responded to a fire at Nonna Sulina’s Sicilian Kitchen & Grill, 5000 Bath Pike, just after 9 a.m., according to a Northampton County dispatcher.
Wayne County woman killed in Susquehanna County crash
SUSQUEHANNA COUNTY, Pa. — A woman is dead after a crash in Susquehanna County. State police say Kelsey McCarthy, 28, of Waymart, was traveling east on Laurel Lake Road in Liberty Township around 7 p.m. Saturday when she went past a stop sign and was hit by a pickup truck headed south on Snake Creek Road.

Scranton man charged with 1.5 million dollars in covid fraud
A Scranton man has been charged with fraudulently obtaining more than $1.5 million in COVID funding. The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania announced Friday that James G. Miller Jr. was charged with fraudulently obtaining the money through false representations in multiple applications for assistance. Miller and his co-conspirators are charged with filing fraudulent applications for pandemic stimulus funds, including Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) benefits, Lost Wage Assistance (LWA) payments and Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans.

Probing the cause of two separate fires this weekend in NEPA
Fire damaged an apartment building in Taylor Saturday afternoon, leaving 8 people without a place to live. Flames broke out just before 1 p.m. in the 100 block of North Main Street in Taylor. Smoke could be seen coming from the back of the building. Several fire departments responded to help put out the flames. Neighbors say everyone made it out safely following that weekend fire in Taylor.
Johnson College Scranton Enrolling Students in Forklift Operator Training Course
Johnson College now enrolling for its Forklift Operator Training Course on Saturday, August 17, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Diesel Truck Technology Center at its Scranton campus.
